The Depths, an adult furry webcomic – Page 57: Prisoner
Well, we saw that coming too… *^^*
We thought it fitting to end the year on a cliffhanger.
And what a year. it was, at least from Leilani and Riff’s perspective. A few health scares, a few good times, a few bad times. A very sad death of a loved one and a very joyous addition to the household. This is how life is though, ups, downs, backwards, forwards, side to side, diagonally, and sometimes you might feel like you’re just going in circles.
Of course, you should accept all of these “directions” and work with them. And you can’t ever give up on life either. As long as you have breath in your lungs, or thoughts in your head, you need to stick around.
It’s like that cool movie “The Truman Show” – a must-see if you haven’t yet. There’s a slogan on a button affixed to Truman’s love interest’s sweater that says “How is it going to end?”, meaning how is his “show”, which is seen by the whole world, going to end? This man has never lived a normal life – he’s lived a life that’s been 100% arranged for him, from the things he learns in schools, to the girls he dates and eventually marries, to his job, and his hometown friends and acquaintances, who are nothing more than paid actors.
I guess what I’m saying as we draw a curtain on “The 2018 Show” is that…well, we’re not really on that kind of show. No one is really watching us 24/7, or pretending to be our friends and families in most instances. No one is controlling what we want to do to a point. No one is guiding us to our destinies. And clearly, no one is getting rich off of us through product placement. *^^*
But this is YOUR show.
This is YOUR life.
Live it until it ends – and please try not to end it yourself. =(
There is a whole world out there that needs you. You could be the one that, as an example, mentors someone later in life to grow up to become a great scientist, or speaker, or engineer, or one of a million other things.
Or maybe you’re the driver in the right-hand lane that pulls over for an ambulance in heavy traffic, which automatically saves the life of the little girl inside who was struck by a car.
Or you could be that one person who tells a friend that he should go to the convention across town, and subsequently save the lives of hundreds of people in a fire. Remember: YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE WHOLE WORLD IN SOME WAY.
And that is such an awesome thing, isn’t it?
And that right there is the most amazing thing about life. And proves 100% why you need to stick with it, through the bad times and the good times. *^^*
Here’s to you, the viewer, and to your friends, families and loved ones.
“The 2019 Show” is about to begin.
Sit back, relax, and see what happens next…
Our greatest wishes to you all for the best, most peaceful, most prosperous New Year yet… <3

This isn’t looking good for David & 1 of the black speech bubbles belongs to him.
Yes, the black speech bubbles are to indicate muffled voices or whispers. ^^ This worked well for the composition of the page.
why did i not see this coming..?? heh..
an useless info.. the reason for the fancy ‘dive suit’ an weight belt .. is the helmet is so full of air that it will NOT stay under water.. an the deeper you go the lighter it gets… an without the ‘cloth suit’ connecting the boots an helmet, you would pop out of the boots at a depth of 50 feet (15.24meters) .. oh an same with the helmet. “whats holding it on..” example: i weight 100lbs (45.35kg) have 45lbs (20.41kg) of dive gear,, i HAVE to have a 50lbs (22.67kg) of weight belt to dive to 50 feet (15,24meters)…
Right, the helmet is quite heavy and weighted so Jamie should actually drop like a stone. ^^
sorry no.. the WWII mark V dive helmet weights 55lbs (24.94kg) .. an will pop off your head like a cork, at 75 feet (22.86 meters), without the corselet or neck dam.! the deeper you go the more weight you need.. Example: take a medium sauce pan,, fill bath tub,, hold pan upside down over tub ,, push to bottom, let go .. will pop back to the surface … an , yes the cast iron pot will sink in the tub , but in a pool it will roll over at 12 feet (12.65 meters), unless you keep adding weight…
the standard WWII mark V dive suit weights 190lbs (86kg) = 55lbs helmet, 34lbs shoes, 83 lbs weight belt, an 17 lbs of suit.. tho belt was misnomer,, loose weights were carried on the shoulders… an that was for some one that weighed about 150lbs…
12 feet / 3.65 meters,, not 12.65 meters…
ok.. I am SORRY.!!.. your comic , your rules.. (( I am/was being a rules lawyer.. ))
an who is to say, , that helmet was one of the myriad of helmet designs that failed,, during that time period…
This is not a World War 2 Mark 5, according to KJ. First off, this would be the year 1922, so that particular model wasn’t invented yet. This is simply a knockoff of that, and isn’t really meant to represent an actual diving helmet. ^^
just commenting.. umm yes the mark V was invented yet.. was invented in the 1900’s an produced by 5 different companies (i have personally seen 2 before 1919.. in a private collection..) and your type looks like a ‘Miller-Dunn’ type 1,, tho none survive because the face plate blows out at depth…
i lived in Hawaii for 4 years, learned to dive at the same place Tom Selleck “Magnum PI” an dived 3 of the islands, an various spot round the globe..
oh who is KJ.?
first off.. Love your comic.!!
second.. again Sorry.. i don’t mean to be telling you how to run your comic..
if nothing else,, put it down as a USELESS history lesson that has nothing to do with your comic..
Actually, this isn’t supposed to be a MK V at all (I know what suit you’re talking about ;3), it just looks like it because of the crossbar view window. The helmet has to accommodate muzzles of different shapes and sizes, so it has a pyramid-shaped front, and curved glass is a pain to try and fashion, hence the crossbar frame. This would be classified as a ‘shallow dive helmet’, which is why it has those bolts on the front and back, where there’s heavy weights attached. It’s also why the helmet extends so far down the body AND why Jamie even bothered to threaten David with a knife; if David struggles too much and Jamie gets turned sideways, say goodbye to the air pressure in the helmet!
I do my research when it comes to visuals ;3
hello KJ.
sorry .. this was suppose to be a “did you know” an turned into a ‘no no you are wrong..’ MY bad.!
what i was trying to say,, and Failed miserably ,, was that ” that they don’t dive with out the suit. “.. the ‘mark V’ was a point of weight reference only.! sense it is more recognized ..
i thought if i used ,, Snead, Miller-Dunn, or west Sea Company. ,, then every one else would go , huh,? .. and i did say, ‘ that i thought this helmet looked like a ” Miller-Dunn mark I ” because it had the curved face glass an cross bars.. also it was notorious for failing at a hundred feet..
an now i see your point.. Jamie is only diving to 50-75 feet, weighted for 80.. is only planing on 15min tops, no need for suit, if he is careful..
that said.. Wha.?? i checked 3 time yesterday.. an your post did not show till this morning..??
Ooh finally time for the wolves to struggle beneath the waves >:3 That diving apparatus looks interesting, and also very finicky and potentially deadly ;3 I really hope to see some panicked faces, worried looks, underwater fights, and most importantly: Some puffed up cheeks <3
Please tell me there will be some puffy faces in the upcoming pages? <3 There hasn't been any thus far in the comic and I'd love to see some! I've seen others talk of this as well, so I know I'm not the only one 😉
We’ve had a few requests for this and we’re going to try. I’m at the mercy of my artist but I’ll try to write the next few pages with these notes attached and let’s see if we can make you happier. *^^*
Yeah, seems it’s something that’s been missing from the comic thus far and that many folks want to see it happening x)
“at the mercy of my artist”? aren’t you paying them to draw what you and the fans want?
I’m just hoping to see David (or even Jamie) really struggling to hold it together, inflating his cheeks with muffled grunts as he tries to desperately hold his breath. It would make me *extremely* happy~
I guess what I’m saying is I love cute and handsome wolf boys struggling to hold it together with puffed faces X3 at least for me, it’s the one thing this comic is missing right now
As I explained earlier, we’ll do our best! ^^
He’ll get killed.
I hope karma will punish that son of b***!!! i want him dead !!
OH NO! TIME TO PANIC AGAIN!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHY THE HECK WAS I RIGHT!?
A happy New year to all of you, KJ, Riff, and Leilani. I love this comic, it’s a great story in many ways. To Jamie I say, “you think you’ve won Jamie, just wait, Leilani will show you what happens when you mess with her man, her home and everything important to her”, and also that my favorite effect is the eye effects for Malana and Jamie, Malana”s fiery orange eyes convey the conflict and anger within her, then Jamie’s contracting pupils whenever his inner monster comes out.
Thank you, Evan! I agree, I love these eyes, the windows to the souls of all these characters, and the way to depict emotions. <3 One of the criteria I always noticed, from an early age, is what the eyes told the readers, even my old DC/Marvel comics, I always “marveled” how the eyes gave the emotions. ^^ Have a good new year too!
Oh yeah, never noticed how creepy Jamie’s face is in the Diving Suit. Christ- He’s scaring ME-
You’ve taken your inspiration from an excellent source! Great work! I’m on the edge of my seat as always with these parts! Now to wait seven excruciating days for the next page, which will probably scare me more-
I’ve been a bit of a quiet fan, but one that has been rather invested in The Depths throughout it’s runtime so far. For fear of sounding un-original, my interests seem to coincide with Cody in these comments such that I’d love to see more visual effects of the underwater handsome lads and beautiful lasses struggling to hold it together. I’m mainly excited about the fighting possibilities with the borrowed time, and the prospect of puffy cheeks is never far off my mind. Hope we get some of those shortly!
KJ thinks maybe Malana can struggle a bit holding breath, but there’s a really cool underwater fight coming up for fans too. <3 Thanks so much for the support!
Malana seems like an odd one to point out for that sort of thing, given David’s rather perilous send-off into the new year(Happy New Year, by the by!). Regardless, so long as there’s ample supply of both male and female struggling about in the depths, I’m sure I’ll be supportive for a long time to come. Perhaps I’ll even manage to get a proper financial situation to support it more directly!
I want to appreciate everyone for their comments on the “lacking” of underwater struggles. It was really not my intent to dwell TOO much on that because, it’s a very scary feeling sometimes, having had my own close call before. More than a few have suggested maybe I chose the wrong artist for this endeavor, but honestly? I cannot imagine anyone better, more hard working, more loyal and devoted to this project than KJ has been. We’re going to try to make as many readers happy as we can. ^^ So, people want puffy cheeks, and they’ll get some. But I can’t stress enough, I don’t want The Depths to suffer quality or story because I’m pulling TOO many kinks and fantasies into the comic. I want to make that very clear to all of the readers. I’m already doing a massive re-write because of the terrific support we’ve gotten so far. <3
Good thing not to let it suffer from too many kinks and fantasies, but a few treats here and there to please the ground is always appreciated. 😉
I’ve also had a close call of my own once when I was a kid, but honestly, I suspect that’s what kickstarted my whole interest in the thing. People deal with trauma differently, I suppose!
“As I explained earlier, we’ll do our best! ^^”
Thank you for listening to us, Lani. I know for sure that you will try to do your very best to satisfy us all, and we’ll all support you for as long as we can <3
Happy New Year.!
Jamie needs a good, swift ass-kicking. Maybe the extra weight of the helmet drags him under more quickly than David, and David can then cut off Jamie’s oxygen supply. Too dark for the new year? I just want to see more sexy underwater shenanigans, and Jamie is screwing all of that up! Keep up the great work and Happy New Year!
I promise more action is coming very soon, but it could get dark. *^^* Stick with it though, lots of fun on the horizon. <3
I have this wierd feeling that someone is going to die soon…I have this impression… don’t know…
When the next page comes?
Monday! *^^*
We needed a week off for holidays, and my birthday.
oh.. Happy Birthday.!
Thanks! ^^
OK… After a Great Christmas Gift, I got a Great Scared at 2019, You Win, My Dear Artists! LOL & Crying~
May the sea goddess smile on Malana, Leilani, Kalea, and David. Also may she give to the evil Jamie a lesson that he will never forget in the here forever after.
