We fought like cats and dogs about this scene at first. Is “The Depths” a male or a female fantasy?

Who should be the virgin?

We compromised. It might not make much sense because after all, in the Polynesian Islands in these days, sex was as common as eating. Taboos really didn’t come about until Puritanism invaded. So…the idea that Leilani and David could be virgins just seems so sweet.

Also, we love her last line of dialogue…and that look of promise in her eyes…

Oh yes, total rape-face. <3 David is doomed the moment he dives after her, right?

And yeah, that pounce. You obviously noticed a parallel between this page and the very first page of the comic, when Leilani pounced an unknowing Thierry panther in the depths.

In her heart, she is a savage. It’s all she’s ever been. As cultured and proper as she’s been forced to portray for her father, the chieftain, Leilani is still a wild, untamed island girl.

David is re-learning that as he struggles against her to break free, and herein is another observation readers should remember…

In her underwater domain, Leilani can KILL you…
